NHRI people profile: Adiyakhishig Tseekhee, NHRCM
Each month, we’re profiling a committed staff member from one of our member institutions.
Name and position:
Adiyakhishig Tseekhee, Head of the Administration and Management Division, National Human Rights Commission of Mongolia (NHRCM) and member of the APF Educators and Facilitators Network.
Could you tell us a bit about your role?
I am responsible for guiding and supporting the staff of the Administration and Management Division, including assisting the Commissioners’ daily activities and publicising the activities of the NHRCM at the national and regional levels.
Other functions of the division are to carry out the archival and documentation process and to provide Commissioners and staff with technical assistance in fulfilling their duties.
What do you love about your role?
I have been working at Commissions for 13 years, including working as a senior officer and Head of the Human Rights Education and Study Division. In the past, we organised a lot of human rights training, advocacy, and monitoring. Our team is trying to provide knowledge about human rights to local people whose rights have been violated and help to protect their rights.
What’s the most challenging aspect of your role?
The COVID-19 pandemic has changed our working environment, so we are learning the skills to do work remotely using information technology. In addition, severe budget constraints are making it difficult for human rights organisations to fulfill their legal obligations.
Why did you decide to work in human rights?
More than a decade ago, I helped an injured worker receive compensation benefits from an employer. After that, the employer decided to increase the amount of compensation grant to be paid to the injured employees in the workplace. So, I decided to do what I could to help people's lives, at least a little bit.
What is your proudest achievement?
In 2014, I attended a training course on "Human Rights Library and Information Management" organised by the Raоul Wallenberg Institute. After that, my team and I took the initiative to digitise the Commission's human rights library. Every year, an increasing number of people access the e-library for human rights reports, research reports and information.
What is your favourite book?
Recently, I have been reading management books. Of these, Zeger Van Der Val's book, Civil Service Management in the 21st Century, is one of my favourites.
